My Ford Aerostar van is currently my only transport. The starter packed up yesterday. I've taken it off and tested it. It seems very weak at the knees.

Does anyone have a good motor to lend or sell, I need my vehicle on the road. I believe my engine is the 4 Litre version of the Cologne V6. The only identifying mark on the starter is 'Motorcraft 11000' but this seems to be a generic number for Motorcraft starters, as starters advertised for various models have additional numbers and letters either side of the '11000'.

Any help identifying the full part number or the loan or sale of another starter motor much appreciated.

this is the cheapest one on ebay at the moment, not sure how it would compare to the others listed but may be cheap enough to get you out of a hole!

Thanks guys. My motor is different to the one on the ebay ad, so it's back to the drawing board. I'll ring Rodley motors in the morning, they are the american car specialist in my area.

It's slightly different. The Explorer and Ranger have the SOHC V6. Mines pushrod. The starter is similar, but doesn't have the eccentric location spigot mine has.

I'll give it a try, but some of the magic smoke escape from the main body of the starter when I tested it on the bench. yikes

IME once the magic smoke has escaped from the wires, it's game over. frown

Could be there's nothing left of the brushes and the springs were arcing against the commutator; never a good scenario but not necessarily terminal (no pun intended! biggrin )

OK, well, Rodley Motors want £160 service exchange. yikes
So I guess I'll strip it and have a look.

Bit the bullet and got a fresh one from Rodley Motors. They had rung back and dropped £60 off the price. Clever marketing that. irkedhehe

Don't know if Lucas is compatable with Motorcraft, but you could have tried this... http://www3.telus.net/bc_triumph_registry/smoke.ht...
