Has anyone had their wheels coated or anodised from the standard polished finish?

If so what do they look like, wear like and cost to have done...

Im wanting to get mine satin or matt black..

Hi

I am just in the process of ordering wheels, and have the same questions about black....
Any pointers would be great, thanks. I am really after a matt black.

I did, I'll have to look up the name on return home Friday.
They are quite nice, epoxy type coating and some very flash finishes are avaialable.
Im a lazy so-n-so when it comes to repeat cleaning such as wheels, these epoxy finishes/colours can look very classy when carefully selected and can be over lacquered in gloss, matt etc.....easy to clean.
No pics with me at the mo though!

I'll forward later in the week Dom.

Keith (ditto) had his wheels refurbed by Image. He has satin black spokes with a "new" ceramic coating, not anodising, on the rims, still reasonably shiny but not as shiny as uncoated. They just need cleaning with water, no polishing, and still look superb after a year. I think it cost about £100 per wheel, this included removing tyres, dismantling the wheels, refurbing and rebuilding.

Hi

Powder coat how?

Remove all bolts, then put smaller dummy bolts in, then powder coat, then remove small dummy bolts are re-insert normal bolts.

Or, just powder coat as is over the existing bolts? Will that look right?
What about the main centre hole? will the thickness of the powder coating stop the wheel going on properly?

Sorry for all the questions, I would love to have them powder coated, but how?

Mine are powder coated satin black over the bolts and I'm very pleased with them.
Mine were chemical stripped and media blasted before coating so a very good base for the coating.

Hi

Seal? Didn't know that there was a seal! Makes sense I guess...

However, there is no way a seal would survive the baking process in the power coating process....???

First, why would you want to disturb/replace the seal?

I don't know if Ultima build the wheels differently these day but mine are sealed with silicone. When the three parts are bolted together there is a 'well' or recess created by the CNC machined centre being slightly smaller diameter than the outer rims. This well is simple filled with a finger spread of silicone.
After mine had been coated this seal was renewed.

I dismantled mine and stripped before the coating was applied as the centers are a different shade to the rims.
On rebuild I replaced the bolts with polished stainless dome heads including a rubber washer under the heads (as per the ones removed) . Mine were just silicone sealer but the later wheels do have an 1/8th rubber O ring as well.

The 3 piece factory wheels I have the centre part has a groupe machined in it each side in them you inset a rubber bead into(approx 3 mm thick)...as you bolt the wheels together the bead seals them and silicone must not be used... The factory sell a pack of bead which is about 10 foot to do all wheels.. I bought a pack at the last open day and still have it in the garage its labeled 'wheel sealant rubber'

I replaced one when I had a slow leak last year, so bought a complete pack as a spare this.. Are you sure Steve you dont have factory wheels?
