As per my previous thread I've been under the car for the best part of this morning and I aint going to get it off. Not enough working clearance under the car on axel stands and cannot for the life of me access the top allen key bolt that bolts the motor to the clutch housing. So, going to have to get it done somewhere. Already got my hands on a new Starter Motor but where to have it done and cost? Anyone got any ideas? I'm in Berkshire. Cheers Kev Gill

I used a stud extractor on mine - the Allen key hole was rounded!. 5/16 Imperial is a better fit than 8mm metric BTW.

To get to the top bolt use a 3/8" extension. It can be done.Use it without the ratchet just to get a feel for the hex head, then attach the ratchet and give it a tug to free it. After that you should be able to ditch the ratchet and do it all by hand. Otherwise any local garage can do it so look for the best price on a starter, like Rimmers of Lincoln or maybe V8D will give you a good deal

Tower View fitted and reconditioned mine for around £100. No point in buying a new strater. Get it reconned and that way you will knoe it will fit back. Many of the V8 motors don't fit the Griff/Chimaera because they hit the manifolds.

Normally would agree with recon, but having seen other posts I sourced a new Prestolite for only £50 - hard to get recon at that price! Fits easier than the orig & works a treat.
