I found this quite amusing, VW have added a comparator tool to their website that tries to convince you their cars are cheaper to run than the competition. I picked the Golf Bluemotion and pitched it against 4-rivals of similar size, equipment and performance and all bar one worked out cheaper than the Golf, including the Audi A3! Are they trying to convince people not to buy a VW confused

This is the nerdiest thing I've done all year.

The Mondeo it compares to a Passat Highline TDI works out at £2,027 cheaper too.

It says that a Beaumeliur x88 is cheaper too! Very strange.

I wonder if anybody's emailed VW saying "I was going to buy a Polo but thanks to your site I've found an A3 will be cheaper! Thanks!"

hehe

Well they seem to have quietly removed all references to the comparator from the main site scratchchin, although it still works using the link...

Quite funny comparing it to Skoda, even with the admittedly poorer residuals.

Octavia vRS estate works out cheaper than the Golf GTI.

Less space, less kit, more cost - just like a Golf!

Phaeton W12 - Using their own comparisons, plus the A8 which I added. The VW has the largest engine but is also the slowest. Making the Jag a LWB still works out much cheaper, £37k vs. £31k cheaper than a VW overall.

That Phaeton comparison must be the winner, the price of running one of those is unbelievable, and with its lack of performance and badge credentials its impossible to come up with a single reason that justifies buying one of those new over the competition! Buying used on the other hand, yes please!
