Anyone seen one of these before? Pretty sure not Cortina or SD1.

The right-hand part looks like the usual wedge unit, the left-hand bit doesn't.

That unit is the same as the one used on the S models the end next to the bulkhead is a triangle drive not a spline(think its a sierra steering shaft)

It does look like a Sierra UJ rather than Cortina.

The (complete) Cortina shaft has a square rubber UJ at the rack end, whereas the Sierra has a round one.

Since it's a Sierra steering column on a 400 it's not that surprising.

I'm on my phone but go to the S series forum and look at useful links at the top of the forum - there's a link in there to rally design UJ's.

That doesn't look like its fitted correctly - certainly on an S it isn't so close to the bulkhead and more worryingly doesn't have all that spline hanging out the end of the UJ

Yep, got it barky! Sierra column coupled to an Escort spline!

Yes, in that the link shows a Sierra column and an Escort spline but that's not what you've got! Study the photos (yours and theirs) carefully. IIRC the spline is TR7 on all wedges, albeit a few varieties.

There's an MG UJ that looks identical but the shafts are larger diameter (an issue noted by Steve Evans I think some years back when he was still creating his Coswedge)... I grabbed one from Ebay for pennies just so I could rob the cruciform off it next time I need one biggrin
