repair or write off?
Discussion
My little shed (a w reg 1.25 Fiesta zetec) recently got bumped into.
I was stationary on the road waiting for the car ahead to turn right when a woman reversed out of the drive and into the side of me.
No real harm done, just stoved in the rear quarter panel a bit.
The insurers repair agent has said it can be pulled out, filled and sprayed at a cost of £570.
Now, to be honest, this car has seen better days. Someone at work has just advertised an identical car, but 1 year newer and much less miles for £1000. I reckon they'd take £800.
As such, I really don't think mine is an economical repair (especially when you take the 1 week of hire car I'd have during the repairs). Do you reckon I could talk them into writing the car off for something like £600 so I could just buy this other one or is their decision made?

At £570, ins co. will write it off anyway.I was stationary on the road waiting for the car ahead to turn right when a woman reversed out of the drive and into the side of me.

Will the guily party give you cash for the repairs, to save everyone's no claims discount ? I'd do that, flog the car, and get a newer one. Even if you're not to blame, claims on your record do not help your insurance y'know.
nope, they want to go through insurance as their car was damaged as well

The car is not even worth that.

Well I value it at about £600 if it wasn't bashed in The car is not even worth that.

I've had the argument with the insurer but they said its up to the valuing engineer at the repair place. I just want to know, does anyone think its worth arguing with them about?
