Light, Powerful, RWD: Winter tyres front or rear?

As title, example car, a TVR in need of new rears but with good non-winter marked (6mm) fronts. Would a set of winter/cold weather (M+S marked) tyres on the rear bring about an appreciable increase in cold weather safety for general use (not commuting or silly snow unless caught out) throughout the winter months?

I don't think I'd run summers on one end and winters on the other. At least not in the kind of conditions in which you can do more than about 20mph.

No you need matched.

Front does the braking so need good fronts, but with zero grip on rear you'd be all over the place in not a fun way.

Winters on the rear = no braking and terminal understeer.

Given it's a TV, keep it in the garage, or the chassis will dissolve.

I'd be sticking winters all round, especially on something like a Tuscan.

I don't really know the answer to this in terms of winter safety but I would be a bit concerned about the days when the weather is good and front of your car is finding substantially better grip than the rear. I think the same tyres all round would make for the most predicable behavior.

Since it's potentially dangerous to put winter tyres on either the front or the back only in case it upsets the front/rear balance, you should do the safest thing which is to put them on either the left or the right of the car, both front and back. Please ensure you video any journeys you make so that others may benefit from your experiences.

What they said. You´d have to be suicidal to try this on a TVR to be honest.
