Cyclists who block other road users

I've nothing against cyclists at all but why oh why do they insist in the centre of London during rush hour to sit directly in front of other (non-cycle) road users at the traffic lights? And then when the lights change, move off slowly in the middle of the road causing chaos...

Do they have a death-wish or something?

I think they sit in front of cars so that cars turning don't crush them.

They move off slowly because the bike is powered by the riders legs and not an engine.

there is usually a box where the lights are with a picture of a cyclist painted on it for the reasons mentioned above

If it also had a picture of a tt from Fulham in a 911 then I suppose you could use it too

Err - when there are no turns I don't see how they will get crushed other than if they stay in the middle of the road. Why can't they move to the left?

I don't always bother, but I've started stopping in front of cars that stop in the green box.

Can you google map link to an example please?

Apart from ped crossings there are always turnings at lights (hence the lights).

Anyway, their avergae speed is likely to be higher than yours in rush-hour traffic - why not just sit behind and be patient rather than blasting up to the back of the next traffic queue?

- I was on a scooter not a 911
- This is not a cyclist bashing thread
- I have no issue with cyclists going to the front of the queue
- I do have an issue when they sit in the middle of the road and block other road users
- travel along the Embankment any day and you'll see what I mean

Are you a scooterist who uses the cycle lanes and advanced stop boxes?

And do you have an example of a traffic light which isn't a ped crossing and where there are no turns?

ETA - that sounds rather accusatory - sorry. But there are plenty of motored two wheelers who think it's perfectly acceptable to use cycle lanes and cycle boxes, particularly on the Embankment, and it's a real piss boiler.

So in fact, cyclists are much like car drivers. Unsurprisingly, given that they're mostly the same people.

For the same reason that I turn across the front of the car at the head of a queue on my motorcycle - if you're in front, and in the way, you've put yourself in a safer position.

Plonk yourself alongside traffic at the head of the queue and it doesn't take much to get squeezed.

Accept it, London is a cycling city now where there are too many cyclists for other traffic to ignore and barge past. Wait like everyone else, overtake when safe to do so.

"Most" Cyclists need to get out of their own arse, their so touchy and their "we have as much right as you so we will ride inconsideratley in the middle of the road" attitude is a real pain in my (and probably most other peoples) arse hole...
