Hi all,

Can I change the cam seal on my 2.0 pinto engine without removing the cam? I cannot remove the cam without removing the head from the block or engine from the car.

Thanks

Yeah right. The millions and millions of people reading this thread who might otherwise want me to do work for them are going to be seriously concerned that I can give a one word definitive answer to a simple question. No doubt they'll also forget the hundreds of hours I've spent giving incredibly detailed help to people with more serious concerns such as CamelotR's smoking A series engines.

Anyhoo, and back to the OP. Although you can hook the seal out with the cam in place with the right Ford tool or a couple of self tapping screws without removing the head it's easier if you haven't got those to remove the rockers, unscrew the rear camshaft retaining plate and slide the cam back out of the way an inch or two until the nose is clear of the seal so you can just lever it out with a screwdriver and push the new one in by hand or with a big socket.

Happy now Steviebabes?

Off topic, but I think the 1600/2000 Pinto is a great engine, if a little long in the tooth.

I have driven over 300,000 miles over the past thirty odd years in various cars as diverse as Capri's, Westfields, Tigers, Granadas, Cortinas etc, with not a single breakdown or any trouble whatsoever...just changed the oil and filter every 6,000 miles, a simple twenty minute job.
