Depends what interests you, if it's industrial history try Kelham Island and Abbeydale Hamlet. Then you have the likes of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall, and various others not far away.

Meadowhell if shopping is your thing, lots of good countryside out to the west, Magna is supposed to be worth a visit, although I've never been. There's bad football at Bramall Lane and even worse at Hillsborough.

There's stuff to do but really it's a functional, industrial / former industrial city, no great excitements from a tourist perspective.

A trip out into the Peaks is probably a must, although you might like to think about staying out there. The Hope valley is within easy striking distance of Sheffield, there are plenty of places to have a pub lunch or go for a walk , it's worth going at least as far as the Winnats pass if your out that way, and maybe beyond to Edale. You could also go and look at the reservoirs where the Dambusters carried out some of their training missions.

In Sheffield itself there are quite a few things to do, you should definitely go and take a look at the Winter Gardens as well as maybe the Botanical Gardens, there's the Millennium galleries which often have decent exhibitions, there is also a small gallery above the library opposite which is more of a traditional art gallery but well worth a visit if you want a bit of peace and quiet.

There's quite a few Theatres, including the Crucible, and frequently things at City Hall (comedy, gigs etc). Pretty much depends what interests you, but you'll certainly be able to keep yourself entertained for a couple of days at least.

+1 for this, The Devonshire Cat, which is nearer the middle of town is good for continental lagers as well.
