VW Passat Wing mirrors problem ???

My friend owns a VW Passat on an "08" plate.

When she selects the "left"(nearside)switch position on the wing mirror adjustment switch she can then adjust the nearside mirror, as you would expect. But, when she selects the "right" (offside)switch position and attempts to adjust the position of the offside wing mirror then both offside and nearside mirrors move at the same time.

Thinking that there was a problem with the mirror adjustment switch she took the car to her local VW dealer who told her this was normal and the mirrors were designed to operate like this.

This seems highly improbable. Can any of you VW Passat owners out there either confirm or deny the advice given by the dealer, please?

Nope they are correct, has done it on every VW i've owned, same with my mums polo.

Pretty sure its in the manual too...

EDIT:

Before the 'Wing Mirror Police' arrive I thought I'd point out the mirrors are on the doors on 08 Passats.

its like this on most vags mate, its simple but silly really, just adjust the right side forgetting the left one moving, then once youve sorted the right you do the left, silly yet simple !!

Having dealt with a lot of VW owners, I can categoricaly say. 85-90% of them are idiots. Tell him to actually READ the instruction book in the glovebox.

This is totally normal - unless you have the "computer" to adjust it otherwise.

It's like that so you can adjust both mirrors down when reverse parking. I use it a lot when parking between white lines.

it makes it easier if somebody different drives the car as they only have to adjust the drivers mirror and most of the time the passengers one will be in the right place

Yeah yeah I'm crap at reversing between the lines in a car park when there are no other cars about. Mock away.

might be able to adjust it in the display between the clocks , on the Golf (or Flog) im driving you can feck about with them in there , also the ttty configurable locking , just unlock all the bloody doors

Yep - and the interior lights, coming home lights.... Not to mention that the settings seem to be on a per key basis....

Yep, my 56 reg Leon FR did this too, and as has been mentioned, if the have the built in computer (MultiScreen Display- MSD?) it can be turned off. Or if not, the dealers could disable it using VAGCOM.
