Need new pads for the M5 (e39), any reccomendations?
Discussion
Whilst driving home from work yesterday the "Check brake linings" message came up so it looks like I will have to invest in some new pads fairly soon.
I have checked the discs and they appear to be ok, however I will get a second opinion later today.
Also on another note, has anyone on here DIY'd this before? I've changed brakes in a few cars so it doesn't deter me from doing it myself (weather permitting), I'd just like to know if I need and special equipment or if it'sa a major hassle because it's an "M"?

The pad/disk setup is very conventional and you should have no difficulty is changing the pads, the usual caveats apply WRT supporting the caliper , monitoring the master cylinder when pushing the pistons back etc. Personally I have used EBC Red stuff which I have subsequently been told are rubbish , although they work just fine, with apparently excellent bite, low noise and low dust. Your mileage may vary.I have checked the discs and they appear to be ok, however I will get a second opinion later today.

Thanks for the responses, I've taken a look at lunchtime and can easily tackle it myself going by what i've read on here and from what I can see on the car.
Ordered some Yellowstuff pads and sensors, delivered for £90, not bad if i do say so myself!
Think I'll do the rears at some point too, but I have a couple of other jobs to tackle first and fund a set of winter tyres, so not going to get too carried away just yet. :-)
