Hi!

I know this is an ugly, ugly little duckling and I know that plenty of people really can't stand them, but I'm still in love.



Pushing 25 years old and just went through an MOT with nothing. Nothing at all. Just fantastic...

It's a T16 S Saloon, one of a sub 250 run apparently and this (I'm told) had colour coding at the factory as a custom option and has since had a little fettle and a tweak to pump out a bit more than the standard 190BHP.

It certainly goes well.

Full service last month revealing nothing untoward and a clean bill of health - plus some missing valves and replacement tubing and a little fettle around the dump valve making it feel a lot brisker now.

I've put a good few thousand miles on this little fella and I am absolutely smitten - totally bitten by the ugly bug

eh? i'd be a bit suspect of a garage that gave my car a clean bill of health then told me i had valves missing!!!

It was serviced by a little chap who knows everything in the universe about SAABS (it's a SAAB 900 Turbo).

It was through his full service that he fettled around under the bonnet and found the tiny plastic breather valve missing off one of the air tubes, he only knows it should be there because of his outstandingly deep knowledge on these motors - so he duly fitted me new tubes and little plastic valves which had an instant effect on the performance.

I'm sure your right when you say many people dont like them but I'm not one of those people. I dont know why but I really like the look of some old Saabs, yours included. Its also 3 years older than I am

My mum had a couple of these - a silver B reg without the colour coding and a black F reg. At the time they were great fun and very quick! Once I had passed my test the black one became my regular transport for a while. It used to spin its front wheels in first, second and third and I remember having a lot of fun in it. I thought they were 175bhp and 200 lb/ft though and I'm pretty sure there were more than 250 of them.

Yours looks to be in nice condition - enjoy!

Love it! My mother had one of the first Aeros way back in 1985 absolutely brilliant car with the comfiest seats.

cracking motors. I have a mint t16s in the garage, also bought a rough one for £200 for parts but when it arrived at the house it was in much better mechanical condition than i thought so I mot'd it and turned it into my temporary daily driver, that was 2 years and 22k ago....still going strong!!

OP, You won't find many negative remarks on here regarding these.

Negative comments would only come from the sort of person who lusts after the latest V.A.G TDi (sorry).


Lovely looking things, these old SAAB's. I may be looking buy something for £2k - £3k soon and these are worth a look I reckon....

I dont really know a great deal about these cars, i have never owned or even driven one..

However I like the look of them, especially in the two tone scheme.

These Saabs seem to have a deserved reputation for being a properly engineered car, the likes of which just dont seem to exist anymore, rather like an old skool merc for example

one of these 900 turbos would definitely be in my fantasy garage i am sure

I doubt the colour coding was factory as SAAB was never into special paint jobs ,may have been done by supplying dealer from new though ,especially on a 2 door as difficult to shift those BITD

i still have a 2 door T16S boot spoiler in my loft painted cream with pink stripe for Brafield weekend ...........does that name ring any bells with anyone here ?

Me neither Ollie...other than I remember lusting after them when I was a younger.

I very much found this by chance, over the summer I needed an "anything runabout" and the very first thing I found was an old N/A 900 turbo with 225,000 miles on the clock.

I got it for £150 with about 9 months MOT and 6 months tax... so I bought it and ran it for a bit. Instantly I loved it, the quirkiness - the build quality, the ugly duckling looks, everything.

I decided I wanted one in mint condition - and I wanted a turbo.

So I sniffed about and found this one for sale, the rarer and more retro looking saloon and in solver with deep brown leather - perfect.

Goes like stink, tight chassis and is fun to hoon as well as being genuinely useable and I can't help but LOVE the styling.


I had a buyer for it while back at a bit under £2000, and despite it being a great price and a sale I really should have made.... I couldn't.

Again, I'm talking st - - the £150 one wasn't a turbo, it was just an old 900 hatch, it was that that got me looking for this one.

You're absolutely right - that's what I was told, I was having a moment when I said factory.

I can confirm that the very first Aeros had black skirts only. My Father requested the car colour coded but SAAB wouldn't do it, so it was delivered to Salmon's in Colchester and painted there.
