Cleaning inside Cannon 450D

During a recent holiday I noticed marks visible through my viewfinder. These marks are NOT visible on my pictures. I took so much care, always having lens caps on etc, but I think it might be on the mirror area which has the dots on from when I had to leave it open as it kept steaming up it was that hot!! I have tried to clean it but I'm obviously not reaching the right parts. Any tips to get into the right area?? I'm not particularly confident with the inner workings and don't want to go poking around and damage something.

It sounds like it's dust on the mirror or focussing screen and if so you should be able to carefully remove it with a lint free cloth; however I'd take it to a camera shop to clean to be on the safe side.

I have a couple of specks of dust on the mirror of my 500d, but I haven't bothered and won't do so unless it gets on the sensor, in which case I'll leave it to the professionals to clean!

Try using a Giotto's Rocket blower it should shift the dust off the mirror, screen or sensor, about £10 - £12 from any camera shop.
