Right then, the plastic roof is going on the garage/covered yard in the next couple of days.
It will have an automatic door, all going well with the eBay purchase, but what I want is some automatic lighting so I can see what Not to crash into etc.

Obvious ones are;
Sensors, like you get inside, I guess these can be wired so they can be worked with a switch.
Normal security light, ie the outdoor type
Remote controlled, may be a decent idea, I have one in the sitting room but not sure how this will work in a garage

Am I missing anything obvious?

Mine too: I have a Hormann door and motor, the motor has it's own lights built in.

What about a PIR sensor?

get an electrician in.

I wired my electric garage door opener into the lighting. So when the little 40W BC lamp in the opener comes on, so do 2 of these:

Thanks for the replies. Haven't closely looked at the auto bit, maybe it does have a light. If so I'll wire into that, cheers.

As for using the headlights, dues to the council being tts, I'll have to do a reverse park type entry. Or at least that's the plan. If the car doesn't fit its an excuse to buy a bike.
