Local London knowledge needed (Best way to get to M25)

I have recently moved to Dulwich in South East London.

I have gone a few different routes, however what is the best way to get from Duliwch to firstly the M4 and secondly the southern part of the M25. AA route planner and Sat Nav dont take into consideration school traffic and crappy roads.

Also is it rubbish to assume that going south to the M25 to get the M4 maybe quicker than the Central London option??

From Dulwich i would probably take A205 south circular and then A21 south to J4 M25 ,if you are doing Dulwich to M4 at peak time there is NO easy route TBH but the above is worth a try

which ever way you go, be it m25, a205 or through town you'll hit traffic unless in the very
early hours

Seriously, South London has some of the worst traffic anywhere in the country. I'd pick up the A3 and go through Roehampton and cross the Hammersmith or Kew bridges to pick up the A4/M4. Afterwards you can go round the M25, do your stuff, and exit junction 10 to pick up the A3. Do not be tempted by junction 9 or 7 for the A24/A23. These roads lead to Hell.

I wouldn't go south out of choice because the M25 could be as terrible as the worst route possible depending on time of day. I would pick up the A3 then take the A205 up through Kew then cut across & join the M4 at J2. It wont be quick but I don't think any route will be.

It depends what time of day you're going.

I used to live in dulwich, and regularly went out to the M4 - But generally left early (6am) and went south circ, out through clapham and out on the A4/M4.

If it's any later than that, then don't even consider it - Head out to the A23 and onto the M25 at Junction 7 (although again, at the wrong time of day, the traffic is pretty bad)
