Ok, basic discription of my pond.
It's approx 6 foot long & 3 foot wide, it's raised of the ground by about 3 foot.
I have had the water tested today which came back fine although very green due to UV bulb not working which has now been replaced. My question is, why are my fish hiding?
I havn't seen them for about 4 weeks now at all & i have been told that perhaps something has spooked them like a heron perhaps......
It was suggested that i introduce a couple more fish as they will be "active" & have nothing to be scared off & be visible pretty much all the time until spooked ofcourse & they will entice the rest out of hiding. I bought a couple today & asoon as they were free to rome, they shot off & i havn't seen tham at all!
Whats going on? why are they all hiding?

Hering? I presume you mean Heron?

Check your local chippy doesnt have any specials on!

Seriously, The new fish will normally hide at first so may take time to come out.

Heron is what i meant. hehe

I no there is nothing wrong with the water so i assume that something has spooked them.
Either that or they are all dead.

They may be thinking of hibernation if the temperatures dropped.

When the temp starts to drop fish will move to the deeper water for survival, if there are no underwater features to sit underneath then they will all just sit in a corner.

They do have lots of places to hide as i have built up some bricks for them to hide under.
I was just concerned because this is the first time in 4 years that i have not seen them for a while.

Cats, seagulls, herons, hawks, foxes, all love fish, all leave the survivors in shock.
Herons are common, you just never see them as they come at first light.
Foxes had all my 10" orfe this year before I cottoned on they'd learnt to fish.
Even with a net well off the water herons can stab fish and cause serious damage.
They could all just be sick/dead too. A bit early/warm for them to be getting naturally torpid.

As said, herons come at first light. And it seems the buggers don't need a long clear flight path away anymore - apparently they've learnt to lift off by circling upwards frown

I've even had crows and magpies take a fancy to fish back chunks.

Yay, im saw 2 of the little buggers lastnight but unsure if they were the new fish or not..........
I would be really suprised to see any wildlife in our garden due to having a dog who seems to sense when there is a bird sat on the neighbours fence & chases anything away.
