VW Eos

Anyone have any experience of these? The girlfriend has convinced herself she wants a diesel eos. October in Scotland has apparently convinced her she needs a folding roof.

Im pretty familiar with the engine but ive read some horror stories about leaking roofs and doors. Is this a common problem , was there ever a recall?

And no she doesnt want an mx5 as she really wants 4 seats.

Next door-but-one had one from new.

Well, more accurately had one and two goodwill replacements from new before VW gave them a Golf instead.

To quote a work colleague. "If Volkswagen ever decide to make a submarine it'll be a brave fking test pilot!"

Best to avoid any of the Hardtop folding roof cars. They ALL (regardless of manufacturer) suffer from leaks. Conversely, fabric roofs rarely leak.

Local dealer admitted to me that they'd had a LOT of their Eos's back to fix leaky roof issues.

I do quite like the look of the sportier versions but wouldn't want to have to worry about that folding top failing when it went out of warranty! VW prices are ridiculous for things like that!

Sweet - is that a UMN? I drove one of those once in France it had a stty Renault Diesel engine

On the EOS - Most folding roof convertibles seem to have roof leaks certainly renaults and peugeots do - fabric roof seem to be better - I'd maybe go for a slightly older A4 TDI cab???

Yes, it's an UMM. A rarity these days - although some of the Jeep Safari companies still use them.

Never driven one - just hung out the back of one on a safari tour thing.

Friend has one. Roof leaks and his has/had a problem where the semiauto box kept jumping into neutral.
Other than that nice car.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that the roof is made by the same company that make the Focus CC roof (Webasto I think).... You only then need to look at the problems Ford had with the CC tto know it's going to let more water in that it keeps out

Not all folding hardtops are the same though - The MX-5 RC's don't leak at all

i worked for UMM for 6 months!
a decent bit of kit IMO, bloody solid, leaf springs GKN and drivetrain and Pug diesels. Very does what it says on the tin etc

Colleague bought one as a replacement for his S2000.

He traded it in and got another S2000 less than a year later.

I quote "I was so bloody sick of it being in the dealer all the time."

Apparently most of the issues were roof leaking related, eventually they cured it, but it was replaced by the most horrible wind noise. At motorway cruising speed.

Er no they don't. The Volvo C70 does not leak at all, ever.

I've sold 2 of them in my time and thought they felt well made.

The last one I sold I had to drive out to the customer and Ill admit its not my sort of thing but I could see why people like them.

As long as its not an out and out drivers tool your looking for its a good looking car that has a fair amount of space and drives well.

On the leaking roof front the Volvo and the Vauxhall don't leak (often).
