Dudes having recently sold my place, Jess and I are looking to move and are thinking about moving a bit further afield to Bournemouth. Can any of you westerners give me some idea of decent areas to live and the bad bits. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Jimbo

Hi jimbo - what's your budget ? Bournemouth is lovely , I'd be there now if I could be !
Depends what lifestyle you want really , it has the full range from student to posh old lady via sink estates and bedsit land

Ok , for 230k I would be looking at moordown and westbourne .
Watch out for winton and charminster - can be a bit too studenty.
Christchurch to the east is nice but hideous for traffic .
Have you looked at Poole ? It's a bit cheaper in places and a good place to live - look at Parkstone (south of Ashley Rd) and Oakdale .
Both Poole and Bournemouth still have a selective grammar school system - great if you have clever kids, not so good for those left behind though .
I know the west of Bournemouth and whole of Poole well if you want any specific info - drop me a pm and I'll be happy to help out

Theres loads of great places to live in Bournemouth, are you thinking Poole as well. Theres obvious places to stay away from such as boscombe and the lower part of Bournemouth. There are some nice areas around Littledown Especially in the very back parts of Castlepoint (not townsend) mainly around Musscliffe and Thrope. There are some very nice propertys around east cliffe as well. If you are looking around Poole then stay away from Hamworthy. Not all of it is a bad area but It's a treck from most places, same as Upton. Lower Parkstone is also quite nice and around Branksome.

Lower parkstone, this is more than likely out of your budget but you may get lucky with a cheap property?

Lots of nice places around both Bournemouth and Poole

Ashley Cross is a nice place (Lower Parkstone) £230 would get you something nice

Depends how many beds etc you want, drive etc

Whitecliff is nice and just towards Poole Park there are some nice places

Sorry i know Poole prices better than Bournemouth

Best thing is if you see something pop the location up on here and someone will know the area

If you are a cash buyer or chain free you can haggle a good deal

Somewhere around Charminster Hill would be ideal for you and within budget.

BH8 9H - postcodes would be the ones to look for...

if you need to be near quick commute route outa town like me: littledown (soton in 25mins), maybe queens park, some of the better areas of charminster, possibly...few in westbourne but maybe pricey, next to no houses near me in eastcliff, the better/east side of boscombe, southbourne, north west christchurch upto A338, ferndown, st.leonards, possibly ringwood. Good time to look mate, seems prices on a slide, maybe heading towards double dip!

yes
Charminster Hill was a very pleasant place to live and if it weren't for work (having commuted to Swanwick from Bournemouth, I don't want to again!) I would definitely consider moving there again.
I lived on West Way (BH9 3) which was thoroughly nice and never had any problems there.

Muscliff is a nice place to live, Northbourne is good too and you can be out of Bournemouth remarkably quickly both to the east and the west. Avoid anything with the word Howe in the address also be mindful of Throop in the address can be very nice but also a disguise for Townsend. Any further info don't hesitate to ask Jim biggrin

Thanks guys for all the advice and tips, went back down yesterday for a drive around the area you have all seuggested. Had a look round Chrsitchurch but wont get much for the money. We both liked Moordown and you can get a reasonable size place there for the money. Not going to rush!

You're mental then! wink
You must get the train though?

I would have to drive and I wouldn't be able to afford to run the MX-5 as it's a touch thirsty!

A mate of mine used to commute from Hayling Island to Greenford in west London every day. In a Beetle, a proper Beetle not those new fangled things. He was permanently knackered! sleep
