Flights booked, Mustang reserved.....but
Discussion
We are flying to LA in November, picking up a Mustang (Corvette not available
), off into the southwest of the States on a bit of a roadtrip. We need somewhere to stay in LA for a few nights after we land as we would like to visit the LA Auto Show while we are there. Does anyone have any good recommendations for somewhere to stay? Don't really want Comfort Inn type motel but something a bit nicer in the $150-$200 per night range. Any suggestions much apreciated.

I'd be ringing the hire car company up to be 100% sure it will be available, I've just returned from the US, booked a Mustang (like yourself), went to collect it and they had no cabrio's at all, I was not happy as it was for my honeymoon and we ended up with a poxy Dodge Charger, just the ticket for a trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon
No matter how much of a fuss I kicked up they had no convertible cars, it seems they have removed most of them from their fleet, so if you are booked with D****r be aware of this.

No, booked with Hertz having suffered the D****r treatment in the past! I was planning to check before we left despite written confirmaton of the Mustang from their Fun Collection.

I suggest you join the Hertz #1 Club, for free of course on their website, that way you can avoid the long queue when collecting your car. If the #1 Club desk is unmanned ask for assistance. Worked a treat in LAX!
We stayed at The Hollywood Orchid Suites in LA which is located at the rear of Mann's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. It has it's own underground parking garage where all the spaces are named after movie stars. Not 5 star luxury in the rooms though I'm sorry to say but the location is great and there's a Hooters just down the street!!

Here is one I have at the moment from Hertz in Texas, not sure it was in their fun range as I only paid $15 per day extra over a Corolla/Sentra. They had plenty available and also the Camaros too. I believe Camaros, Mustangs and Chargers are all the same car class and it it up to them what you end up with depending on stock.
To put them into perspective, they are about $25-30K over here so they are not really premium cars and they still handle like a barge.
Nice enough for cruising though, even with the cheap interior.

If all you need is a bed & breakfast type hotel, try the Holiday Inn express on Hollywood Boulvard.
It's a 2 minute walk to the (very tacky) walk of fame and just 5 mins in the car to Universal and Warner Brothers.
We were upgraded to a King suit for free which was very large. Great comfy bed and an HD TV.

Stayed at the Kimpton hotel in LA, the Palomar.
Quite glamorous, very nice bar, wonderful service and ideal for a romantic getaway. Well located for most things - 10 minutes from the airport (subject to traffic) and about the same to Hollywood, maybe 20 out to Santa Monica.
Got it through Hotwire at $109/night, where it is listed as a 4*.
