Searching through VW Golfs on their website just now and I've seen 3 for sale at +£36K.

Since when did Golf's cost this much?

Model is TSi R270 whatever that is. Nuts

List price for the Golf R is about £30k, so I presume these 3 must have all the options on. Or there's a waiting list for Golfs now?

Makes me wonder what level the next S3 will be priced at. £35k I would guess.

Sunroof/Sat Nav and the £200 front centre armrest scam.

I'm looking for a GTI Ed30 and these came up too. Stunned.

Ridiculas money. As is required for most VAG cars. You can spec an A3 to nearly 40k. The depreciation must be horrific on them. I know they hold there value better than french hatches. But I wouldnt imagine youl have people queing up to give you 30k+ for a second hand hatch.

ISTR a chap on here posting up a new spec of a Golf GTI (non-R) that came to the think end of £40k.

Which is what E36 and 46 M3s used to go for (pre-options) once upon a time, but they're nigh-on £60k once youve ticked a few choice boxes now.

Astonishing, but a case of money being worth less over time at least as much as price- and feature-creep I think.

You would need to be as mad as a cut snake to justify that! I dont imagine I would ever buy a new car. But I can see if people need reliable cars a new car makes more sense, however 44k for a golf is ludicras.

The Golf R is 'overpriced', but it's a limited edition and many car companies do the same. What does £44k buy you in a DBS over a DB9?

The GTI is a fairer comparison: the Mk6 GTI is only £400 more expensive than a Focus ST. On that basis alone it's very good value compared to the old thirsty Ford.

Volkswagen are doing rather well at the moment. The workers are doing extra shifts in Germany and are struggling to keep up with demand (I heard this on the radio, so no link.) At the end of the day Volkswagen are a business and can charge what they like for their cars. They only have to keep their shareholders happy.

I thought it was just the top of the range Golf, i.e the replacement for the R32?

Sod the Bentley and the 911 - you could get an Aston V8 Vantage for less than £40K!

Yes, VW can charge what they like for their cars but it doesnt change the fact that nearly 45k for a Golf is fking obscene.
I dont care if they are "struggling to keep up with demand" and "are doing rather well".

They are taking the piss. IMO.
