Around Ireland with an SLK

Had the extraordinary pleasure of Sampling the roads of Ireland Last week, well what a blast we had.
Caught the mid afternoon Ferry on Tuesday from Pembroke to Rosslare after a nice blast through wales roof off (big thanks to the guy in the Mk1 Golf that gave chase round the twisty bits round pembroke that made wales a bit more fun) and arrived in Sunny Ureland early evening. Roof off again for the drive to Cork which i had to say was one of the best bits of the 5 day trip, 140 (kmh officer
)roof off all the way, other drivers are so courteous, they all move over (the only time i had any problems were with other UK drvers not moving across, though they were dispensed with after full application of the 320's power) so after a quick courteys wave to the Eire drivers off we blasted in to the distance. the scenery was fantastic (even though the horizon was upon you in no time !!)
Arrived at the Blarney Castle hotel in time for Tea and the obligatory 3 pints of Guinness it was off for a rest for the next day !
Toured the Gardens of Blarney Castle the following morning, you have to kiss the stone, only problem is all the bloody Americans
and after a wander around Cork itslef headed up too Limerick our base for the rest of the week. Again Fine roads, god bless the Irish for scamming as much Money as possible from the EC to build some great roads.
Although i find going from a great road to tracks a bit disconcerting, go get some more wonga and finish the Job properly !!
Thursday saw us heading up to Galway for the day and returning Via the caost roads to the Cliffs of Moher (amazing sight and worth a trip there alone)
Friday was spent trundling (well nearly trundling, a trip out to Bunratty Castle and a sprint to good speed with a guy on a bike that was surprised to be overtaken at 130 (kmh officer) by us Roof off !!)around Limerick visiting the gilies relatives and an evening of much Guinnes drinking in Souths on O'connel (SP) street.
Up for a traditional Irish Fry up on Saturday morning for the last leg of the trip to Dublin to catch the Swift home, again great roads most of the way not a Gardei in sight for the whole time we were there !
1300 miles later and the Merc has been cleaned and readied for the next trip and didnt miss a beat the whole trip.
She was fed a regular diet of Optimax for the whole trip (V-Power in eire, and didnt have any problems finding a Shell garage anywhere in Ireland)

well done Hughesie, you were all round my home turf - am from Limerick but live in Northants now, have done all the roads you were on many times but most recently in our yankee camper (trip pics on www.myrv.co.uk), am taking my 911 home in July for a blast, will be brilliant!

You were very lucky, the Garda take speeding big time over here now the points system was introduced last year and usually use the good surfaced roads to go hunting. The only good thing is you don't have to pay the fine as they haven't got any system in place yet to hunt you down. Bear in mind that the speed limit is 70 only on the motorways, not dual carriageways which are 60. I'd lived in Cork ages ago for 5 years before I realised that though...the garda didn't take to me overtaking him at 70 whilst he and a mile of traffic behind him were doing 60mph!
