Cold smoking food
Discussion
I've been hot smoking for a few years and always wondered about cold smoking. Found this piece of kit as a cheap and easy way of getting into it.

Anyone got any experience? It seems that home cooked smoked salmon for x-mas might be on the cards !!!

Link doesn't seem to work?
Friend of mine made a cold smoker but cutting up an old propane bottle! (can't remember the ins and the outs of it, but am inclined to get him to make me one!) - it was large enough to put all sorts in there and I believe they've had some real successes.

Loved this note
"The pie pan will (hopefully) prevent the smoke wood from bursting into flames and burning down the cardboard box. See the note below about having a fire extinguisher handy"

30 quid for the smoke generator + 25 quid for a cardboard box with some racks in it + enough sawdust for two smokings @ £2 a go.
Hmm.
I like the convenience of it, but I reckon 55 quid and some ingenuity would build you a much better cold smoker that would work happily on any sawdust/chippings/twigs (and could probably be designed so you could hot smoke in the smoke generation chamber).
