To be more exact, I'm heading to Penuwch, just outside Tregaron with the O/H tomorrow afternoon, and want to try and take in some decent roads along the way.

Being from South Wales myself I know some of them anyway, but I was simply planning on M4, A449 and A40 to take me most of the way there (as shown in the link):

Google Maps

It needs to be a fairly straight forward route as I don' want to take too long, but some decent scenery would be very nice, rather than just trucks on the A40!

I'll be driving a Fabia vRS, so nothing too quick - just a gentle but enjoyable driving route would be brilliant hehe

Any advice?

Crickhowell to Rhyader? You just mean the A470? I know it's decent, but I wouldn't say it's good enough to warrant a detour of that far to be honest.

Any other suggestions?

Chepstow - Usk - Abergavenny is a good start to the route if you have the time.

A4069 - jump off the M4 at J45 and head north to Pontardawe and then Brynamman. The A4069 takes you from there to Felindre. Pick up the A482 to continue to Lampeter and on.

Ok, pretty easy. Instead of turning down the A449 at Raglan, Turn up to Monmouth on the A40. then go across the bridge on the right just after the tunnel, and take the A466 down past Tintern Abbey. Lovely stretch of road.
