For the last few weeks I have been getting a rattling noise from my rear end, I have had a look underneath the car and I cannot see that anything is loose and the dampers do not show signs of leaking

could it be a bush?

Check for a broken rear spring, or loose pads / missing brake pad clip

I can't think of a bush that would allow a rattle, most would give heavy kncoks or thuds from moving about, but not really any rattles or shakes.

it might be more of a knock, it sound a bit louder than something moving about in the boot, my explanation isnt great but the car still drives as it should

Did you only change one spring? When I changed mine, they looked fine on the car but fell apart when I got them out.

I'm in a similar situation, except my rattle (metallic) is coming from the middle of the car. Recently had a new exhaust, and discs & pads fitted all around. Can't see anything out of place underneath, and it still feels and drives like normal. Hoping to get it checked out tomorrow if I get the time. Hope you figure out what's wrong with yours = )

My 328 has just developed a rear end rattle too but only noticeable on rough road surfaces. I've had the rattling pads issue before & it sounds similar to that but appears to be coming from behind the rear seat?

that sounds very close to what I am getting but living in Huddersfield all the roads are rough!
