I am flying to Honkers on the 10th Nov with Cathay Pacific. I note that one can check in online up to 48hrs prior to travel, which I plan to do, primarily to select a half-decent seat!

How does this affect the time you need to get to the airport by? I am doing my usual thing and agonising between 2 coach arrival times. Want to get there with some time to spare however don't want to be sitting round for absolutely ages.

Flight departure is 1805hrs, relevant coaches I am mulling would get in at either 1405hrs or 1505hrs. The 1605hrs one is a little too close! Flight goes from LHR, I am in Bristol.

The fact you are checked in means you just have to present yourself at the gate in the allotted time. However... this is relying on the fact you have presented correct pre-flight information (if necessary) and checked in your bags (if necessary, and before the allocated time).

Fast-drop for bags usually isn't so fast any more for most airlines.

When flying intra-EU or UK and you have no bags - that's when online check in is just wonderful smile

Heads off to flysas.com to check in for tomorrows flight to CPH

1500 should be alright ..bus ought to be on time too

although its better to sit around an hour than be pooing yourself that you will miss a flight

I generally find that online check-in doesn't really do much bar reserve your seat. 1505 might be pushing it if they want you there 3hrs before take off as some airlines do before long haul.

If there's too much scum in the bar then just pay a tenner or so for one of the lounges.

That's always my thought! I would also agree with the 1505 coach, then if you were to miss that you could take the next one and still not sweat about being late.

Small tip about your return tip. You may be able to check your bag(s) in at the HK or Kowloon airport express station. I did this when flying back with BA in june by checking my bag in at 12 noon for a 21:00 flght biggrin

Two minor downsides....1 you will need an airport express train ticket to use this facility, and 2 having no luggage appeared to give the wife an overdose of shopping illness yikes

Actually decided now to get the earlier coach at 1405hrs. Last time I came through LHR en route to Thailand I had very similar flight times, and there really wasn't that much hanging around time, so would rather save the worry!
