I might need to buy a LNB (as its gone missing) for the (Spanish) Canal + setup I putting up. Will it matter what one I get? Does anyone know where I need to point the dish to get Canal +?

Can I get a twin LNB and line it up to receive Canal+ and Freesat/other fta English channels?

Thanks

Which Canal card are you using? If any? Canal channels are broadcasted by a number of different companys, Without knowing which one exactly it'll be hard to tell you where to point it.

Assuming its CanalSat or Cyfra your wanting to use - You'll need to be on Hotbird 13.0e. 70-80cm dish should be fine for it, and any universal LNB will do (We use Triax and Inverto ones, The Inverto are slightly better but not much difference in it unless you go for the more expensive ones.)

If its Digital+ (Which i think it will be as you said spain?) thats on Astra 19.2e - You should be able to get a decent enough signal using a Zone 2 sky digital dish if you have one lying around, But If your buying new you may aswell get a 60-70cm dish for sake of argument. Again, any universal LNB will do.

As for getting both Freesat (I'm assuming you mean the UK freesat from Astra 28? Not other foreign Free-to-Air stuff?) your options would be either a Motorised dish so it'll move from one satellite to the other automatically depending on the channel your flicking the box too (Or the box your using.) OR you could try setting up a Monoblock setup - One dish, 2 LNB's offset picking up the different satellites (You could, In theory, Get 13,19.2 and 28 off the same dish i think? Will check in the morning for you)

To be honest though, If your installing it yourself and you don't have alot of experience with satellite installations your best bet is to either get 2 seperate dishes (You would only need a normal sky minidish for freesat - Its the exact same satellite as skys subscription service.) or go for the Motorised system - There will be a learning curve though!. Or take the easy route and pay someone else to do the ladder monkeying for you!

Hopefully in the morning someone with a bit more experience may turn up to give you some better advice - I've only been working in this game for a couple of years so i'm still learning myself!.

Also, If you do decide to do it yourself - Save yourself alot of hassle and get a decent signal meter to line it up with! Not one of the cheapo analogue needle ones B&Q or Maplins will try to sell you - You need to be able to identify the satellite your on correctly - Nothing more frustrating than spending ages getting the signal perfect only to find your on the wrong satellite!

This will give you a rough idea which way to point your dish(es?) but might be worth picking up a cheap compass too!.

Thank you for your help. My Girlfriend did it with her Dad and they have managed to set it up pretty well for Digital+ (sorry I wasn't clearer on that). Once we site the dish permanently I will try to set up the monoblock.
