will a worn cv joint cause this...

ive had some wheel wobble on my mk2 golf , assumed it was just wheel balance and had them done , slightly better but still there , swapped some other wheels on still same
seems to come on 60-70..where other wheel balance probs were noticed at lower speed in the past
thing that makes me wonder if its cv's , is that at normal speeds on country roads say 40mph and above if i take a mile bend once the steering is turned i also get the wobble
nothing is obviously worn out , not clonking from the cv's , steering ends are tight etc
how would i diagnose if the cv are the cause

Does sound like worn inner cv's with the speed induced wobble when driving straight; and outer cv's by the wobble induced by turning.
However it could be a whole host of things; i would suggest jacking the car up and having a nose about and a pull at things. You'll know if it's the cv joints as the underside of your car will most probably be covered in grease or the boot will be empty, as it's generally the only reason a cv joint will fail.

Hi,
Have you had a wheel bearing or cv joint replaced or any other work in that general area, which would
involve undoing the hub nut. If this nut was slack it would produce play which could be the wobble.
If not as advised already jack each side up and poke, feel or shake if the wobble is that bad the
cause should be able to find.

Bottom Ball Joint, Warped brakes (but wouldnt cause the wobble during turning), out of balance driveshaft, worn steering joints
Could be any number of things, really you need to take it to a garage so they can give things a good going over, could be nothing, could be about to kill you!

Had these exact symptoms in my octavia. 3 garages could not find the fault. It did about 20k with these symptoms on and off. Finally the outer joint failed. This failed because the inner joint had worn and was vibrating. Had a new shaft, inner and outer joints done, 110 quid so not drastic.Did you have all four wheels balanced and swap all four wheels ar just the fronts?

As mentioned it could be any number of things I think.
Take solace in the fact that the Golf mk2 front suspension components can be replaced by any monkey with a set of spanners and spring compressors (as I recent proved).
I'd jack the front end up and look for play in components. Also be sure to spin the wheels to look for bearing issues. You don't have to be a mechanic to notice if something is not the same on one side as the other!
Tie rods, tie rod ends, ARB bushes would be my first point of call. Also remove the plastic caps at the top of the front mounts and look for play. The bolts that hold the suspension in place can stretch over time and work themselves loose (there should be two of theses).
I'm no expert but I don't know why a CV joint would only make the wheel wobble at a certain speed? Strikes me more that something is resonating at higher speeds and working it's way loose when you're turning.
Failing that double check the wheel balancing weight hasn't come lose or fallen off.
