been looking at replacments for my mg zs 180 and have kind of drawn it down to a vectra vxr, mazda6 mps or maybe a impreza sti.
now the mazda ticks all the boxes for less money.
it has leather and bose system and 4wd for near half the price of the other cars? i quite like the q car bit of it but still not 100% sure on the looks still.
its main duty is to carry around my new born baby and then when i actually find free time have a blast in it.
also i want to keep the car for atleast 3 years really so how is reliablty and stuff with these?
also same goes on the vectra vxr and alike as i do really like these.

They are good cars, but everyone on here will recommend a (much) older BMW instead.

would you seriously recommend the vectra vxr the one with diabolical handling???

People will always recommend a n/a rwd i6 over a 4wd forced induction.

Add in price then it's a more complex equation but fact is the mps is generally a very unknown car whereas a say 330i is as such better residuals etc which is important to your total car ownership cost calculation.

Of course none of that should matter one bit if you like it go for it. Although you have to bear in mind it was a poor seller and is a niche product.

I never mentioned the Vectra VXR confused That aside, the VXR wasn't a bad car either. Evo gave it a fair review and like their long termer too, it was only Clarkson driving like a tool for comic effect that gave it the reputation.

So?

WTF? He's buying the car to drive around in, not as an investment. If you're really worried about saving money then buy a £500 banger.

I'd have a 6 MPS over a 330 any day of the week.

hehe I've a hankering for a nice GT-B at some point in my life.

As for the OP, have you thought about a Legacy Spec-B. 3-litre H6, 240bhp, comes in an estate flavour whereas the 6 MPS doesn't.

ignoring price can you please elaborate as to why.

For me it would be the linear n/a power rwd handling incredible sports seats they look aggressive in m sport sound sweet when thrashed unline any forced induction can and they are desirable/ a known car as when you have one from new people will be aware they are not a cheap bit of kit

Because the MPS isn't a 330. Yes, the 330 has all the attributes you mention but they don't do a great deal for me.

The MPS has the rarity factor and is a pretty stealthy way to travel around. Not many people know about them, which is a good thing IMO.

i had a bmw 330 m sport convertible and it utter crap! don't fancy one again. handling wasn't great and made worse by the lack of lsd, brakes had no feel and locked up to easy, wasn't that quick and the reliablity was terrible. sorry for all you bmw fanny boys im not interested in the bmw.
st220 hasn't anywhere near the pace of the other two andquite old design now and my next door neighbour has the st155 tdci and i don't want pretty much the same car has him.
really top budget is 12k but as anyone would if i can get a good car less i will.
what about the mazda3 mps? i know its fwd rather than 4wd but its alot lighter and still has enough room.

I had a 6MPS for 3 years and loved it. Had it for the same reasons as the OP is looking for one. Has all the electronic wizardry and a full compliment of airbags. I would have bought another without question if it wasn't for them not being carried over into the next model.

They did have some turbo issues though, so if you find one you like make sure it's been replaced with the superseded more reliable one. This was generally done fairly routinely under warranty, so call to to the dealer that serviced it should give you the info you need.

To be fair though that's only your view. It is often said on here that the 330i is actually rather dull to own/drive. I've even seen some claim it as the most disappointing car ever.

It's also slower than the MPS. And IMO I don't really like the look of the BMW, pretty bland and dull, inside and out. It's also less tunable. I also don't see them as desirable, in fact 100% the opposite I see them as almost cringe worthy, they have a terrible "cock" image which is often and regularly supported by many owners. They, the 3 Series is as common as muck on the roads too and most people will think its a diesel company hack.

I believe the MPS motor is underrated and puts out a little more than claimed of that helps. If you can get paspalum the dull image and styling I would say go for it. Watch for ESP problems though.

personally I think the St220 is nicer looking than the MPS, that's all opinion though smile

Seen decent MPS for around the £8000 mark.

ik have seen decent ones for under 7k from dealers yet you can't get a vxr from networkq for under 11k in salon form!
i don't mind the st220 but i just no its not what im after as i like turbo power cars and i like q cars too so thats why im think of the mazda6.
so check for the turbo being changed but what else to look for? are they reliable? id be looking at one from a main dealer with warrenty so are the mazda dealers ok?
