Check your brake fluid level, Garlick. Mine started Milling at me last year along with the red circled 'P' light - turned out the brake fluid was low due to a leaking slave cylinder.
ETA - it was probably nothing to do with this but just a fluke I discovered the leak. The original problem is probably still there but the MIL light has probably malfunctioned and no longer works.

Mine came on travelling back from the Griff Growl this year, stupidly I reset the ecu and it hasn't come on since. On checking over the car when I got home I noticed the fuel pressure was lower than recommended. Turned it back up and the light has stayed off since. Never did get to plug in a diagnosis machine as the code had cleared
Heading down to Dartmouth next weekend, its first long trip since The Growl. I've driven the car about 1500 miles since the Growl and the light hasn't come back on. Sods law it will light up just as I arrive in Dartmouth, 200 miles from home !!
eta following on from that, how safe is it to drive the car once the MIL lights up ? Is there a limp mode as such ?

If its a MIL light on a 14cux ECU you need to plug in a fault code reader to find out what caused it (about £45 from Steve Heath or Ebay). You will get a 2 digit code saying something is out of spec'. You may not notice any drop in performance at all, as the ECU can run quite happily without some of the sensors working (namely the lambda probes), but it will chuck up an MIL warning. None of the codes are that serious as the 14cux is a pretty simple system, and replacing a faulty sensor of some type should not cost a fortune. The end of the world as we know it can wait a bit longer.

Glad nothings wrong with yours Garlick
