which motability car?

I was involved in a very bad car accident in 2005 which left me in a bad way. im now entitled to a motobility car,

iv never used this scheme before but after having endless problems with cars this last year the reliability and warrenty of a new car is appealing and i also fancy treating my self to something nice.

i have a budget of 3.5k for the advanve payment and can choose something from this list

I have no real prefrences at all just after some opinions from other people what would you choose?

do you need ease of access ? comfy seats ?

What will you carry in it? (passengers/luggage)

What toys do you want?

Are you a keen driver?

How many miles will you do?

I'm sure you get the idea - reduce the list to a number of candidates then get test driving

As above, do you have any specific needs/requirements? Access, controls, size, storage etc.

Alot of motability drivers have specific needs that narrow down the options significantly in alot of cases.

My mum in laws disabled and every three years she gets to choose some half decent machinery .

I allways look forward to choosing something half decent well built with ample room for her , then she proceeds to completely ignore my advice and go with the herds of sheep who buy the most common option , in this years new choice she purchased a Nissan Qashqi.

As this is PH i reccomend an MX5.

Honestly though it depends on what you want from the car, power, economy, comfort, handling, ease of access, automatic only etc.

A guy at my office has a megane cc It's a pretty nice car. four seater convertible with a moderate ammount of the room in the back. WIth the roof down access is good enough. Possibly a bit more of a pain when it's raining but rough with the smooth.

Depends on your disability, aswell as all the usual car requirements such as have kids, carry loads etc. Having dealt with several motability when i was in the trade, the major thing to look for is ease of getting in and out. Although, if that was an issue for you then surely you would know that already... not quite sure how much help people can be without more info.

I believe there is a list of approved cars - you can have anything you like but anything not on the list will require additional financial input from yourself.

My friend wanted a VW touran TDI but as it wasn't approved, an auto version would have cost her a fortune - in the end she went for a Nissan Note 1.6 auto

I had a motability car when I passed my test at 16. This was by far the easiest way as the insurance was taken care of as well, but on working the figures out, it would still of been cheaper for me to buy my own car / insurance in the end, especially as some of the advanced payments are rather large!

But anyway, as above, it depends on your requirements!

I'd be interested to know just whether motab is actually worth it in the long run. I mean so many people go for it, but clearly you still pay up front and every month, because the govt reduces your higher rate disability allowance if you take it up. For smaller cars I would say it would be cheaper to buy, but for larger cars the deposit can be very hefty. I hope people do sit down and work it all out, and not see it as just a 'free car' which is clearly not the case
