Replacement Springs and Shocks - What to Fit?
Discussion
I've had a call from Austec today (who have been fantastic) and they say I need to replace my springs and shocks in the next 12 months.
As this is the case, I've searched in the S forum to see what has been used in the past. I see adjustable AVOs seem to be the prefered option. Why is this? Does anyone know how much they'd cost? Also, why is adjustable suspension better apart from setting the car up for track days etc....? I assume there is a rebuilding cost associated with them every couple of years?
Any thoughts most appreciated.

This is what they put on my car
New adjustable AVO shocks x4 PG718 = £318
New springs x2 E9250 = £49
New springs x2 E9300 = £49
Could possibly get the bits yourself from AVO at
www.avouk.com/ and save a few £££
The advantage is you can get the car set to how you like it,i.e ride height firmness of ride etc
I'll be at the next mid essex meet if you want to try before you buy
If the budget will go to £1k phone Joolz

Same setup here too. They're actually more expensive through AVO though (this is so that they don't comete with their dealer partners - otherwise there wouldn't be much point being a dealer
). The cheapest price I found was from a company in cumbria - which Austec then matched. Came to about £430 inc VAT before labour (this was about two months ago). WG
Have the slightly more posher version, purchased via the man that is Joolz
. I am still in the process of experimenting and getting it set up
.
What can I say even now, it is totally awesome, can't make a direct comparason to AVO's, who I beleive have a OK name in the S installation.
However I took the view that if I didn't go this route I knew in a years time I'd be tempted to try, so it would have been more expensive in the longer run
. Well thats how I convinced myself
. Usual rules apply IMHO buy the best you can afford.

Are these Nitrons? I spoke to Austec about the possibilities when I picked my car up yesterday (she's going really beautifully) and I was told that AVOs are a good, solid suspension system for S's. I'm still tempted by going the more expensive route but got the impression it might be a bit overkill on an S.
The maintenance of the AVOs sounds easy and cheap with rebuilds costing about £25 each. What are the maintenance costs associated with the posher ones Harry?

Whether they are over kill ofr not is a matter of opinion, I feel they are worth it and PeterH who has tried every combination possible on an S swears by them, who am I to disagree.
re the re-build cost, every two years I think, not only that if you want to change the spec slightly during the re-build it comes as part of the service AFAIK, not sure I'll ask Joolz about cost.

Is that the cost per spring (£49) or for a pair?
Who's springs are they?
Cheers
Chris

Do Austech provide a 'supply only' service for parts?
As I live in Birmingham it's a bit far to go - also don't mind having a go at fitting shocks & springs myself (done it in the past on various cars).
Or does anyone know of any AVO dealers in the west midlands?
Cheers
Chris
You could try Joolz at Joospeed or give Austec a ring
