Problem with Boxter key

Not sure if this is the right section for a tech question, but i am hopeing someone will be able to help.

Recently purchased a Boxter S, 51 2002.

when i got it one of the keys did not seem to work very well and i just assumed it was a new battery required, ended up changing them both and all was ok for a week or so, went to the garage yesterday and the little red light on the key is making an intermittent flash but not opening the car

I have tested the batterys in work today and both are full of power, also popped 2 new ones in just in case but still nothing !

Has anyone else experienced this ? if not, does anyone know how to get into the car using just the key ? sounds a stupid question but i have turned it left and right, held it for a number of seconds in both directions but nothing, car wont open what ever i seem to do.

Are you literaly locked out the car at this moment in time?

Sounds like it has lost its code, probably when you changed your battery.

Open the car with the key, the alarm will sound, fire the engine up and eventually the alarm will stop sounding. Drive it to your local Porsche specialist and get them to recode the keys.

Yes locked out of the car, its safely tucked in the garage.

Have tried turning the key in the lock but nothing happens either! i have held it for several seconds in either direction but still nothing.

Is there any chance that the actual car battery is dead? I only say this as I've had to unlock my Boxster with the key when the button wouldn't work - I just turned the key in the door & it unlocked - although with the alarm going until the ignition was turned on.

i suppose the car battery could be dead, not used it in over a week, i am pretty sure its something to do with the key i was just hopeing that there was a special nack to opening the door with the key, cause i cant work it out

Had a similar situation with my sons Boxster a while ago, if your in the same boat its not good news.

The car "goes to sleep" after a period of time and the only way in is via the key in the drivers door, that's fine as long as the little coupling between the barrel and lock as not come adrift.

Our solution after numerous attempts to gain entry was a second hand window via ebay then take the hammer to the said window to gain access.

If any Boxster owners are reading this check your key opens the drivers door now, if it doesn't get it fixed asap.

There is a short coupling from the barrel to the actual lock, if this as come adrift its no entry I'm afraid, its a pig to fit, skinned knuckles for sure.

Thakns for the info, it does not sound good news, my skills with spanners is about as bad as my spelling so i think i will let the local specilist sort it out

Actually you should post this in the Porsche section, There was a similar thread running recently and the guy was also unable to unlock the car via the key because the linkage was detached. Somebody told him via PM exactly how he could get into the car and how to reconnect the linkage once in.

I will have a look back also and see if I can find the thread.
