I have an 02 plate 530 diesel sport, it needs new drop links all round as well as new pads all round plus front discs, I was thinking about getting EBC drilled and grooved front discs on the front with red stuff pads and standard pads on the rear, I have been quoted just under £300 for all the parts, I will be fitting them myself so labour isn't a worry. I was just wondering if I had the right combination with the front brakes or should I change it to something else? also was wondering if I could get the parts cheaper elsewhere? I am in south Wales but with the joys of internet I could get them from anywhere. any comments would be great, cheers. It's not remapped but will be in the near future.

I would buy online from Eurocarparts or GSF. Many of the parts are original equipment.

Any reason you want non standard discs?

Worth checking out the stealers too, as the have the value line parts (which basically are the same but in crappy packaging) for cars over 4 years old now. You might be surprised at the price of OEM parts under this scheme.

As for the stuff you have suggested. I would question the need for grooved/drilled discs for road use, and likewise, unless I have it wrong are red stuff pads not too hard for normal road use?

Have you considered brembo discs/pads? Again, good specs and might be surprised at the prices.

Droplinks are cheap, I think I only paid £70 each fitted at BMW.

Stick with OEM brakes - pads are either Jurid or Textar and £40 at GSF.
