This will do the job(see below), and just in your price range.
Or if you want second hand there is a shop called The Aladins Cave on West Derby Rd, Tuebrook, he always has an extensive range of second hand rifles, I have bought many from him, and you can test fire them upstairs in the shop.

The law states that you can shoot them on your land as long as the "projectile" doesn't leave your land. - This is quite a serious law so please don't dick about with it, put something solid up as a backstop and bait in front of it.
In answer to the which gun part, I would recommend a spring powered gun if you want to stay fairly cheap.
Have a look on Here At the gunmakers such as Webley, SMK & budget, Cometa etc... for some of the cheaper guns

I had one of these when I was about 14, it did a great job back then but it doesn't seem to fit me any more Or if you want second hand there is a shop called The Aladins Cave on West Derby Rd, Tuebrook, he always has an extensive range of second hand rifles, I have bought many from him, and you can test fire them upstairs in the shop.

How can six squirrels ruin 3/4 acre? We have squirrels but they make no mess.
they can't "ruin" a garden but they will dig up and eat crocuses, tulips and other bulbs but they are rather amusing when they are flying through the trees chasing each other - we've got loads and just live with them. I used to have a neighbor who used to HATE with a passion anything that came in his garden. Birds, squirrels, cats, foxes, etc. His little diatribe was that these foreign invading animals are ruining his all natural garden... His all natural, artificially manicured, and fertilized garden that is, with his best attempts at growing palm trees outside, etc. He was a proper tool.
Shootings fun I'm sure. But trapping is less effort.
Also if you don't get a clean shot, you leave yourself open to animal cruelty folks getting upset. Instant death in a trap is fine however.
