Xbox 360 Power light only flashes.

The loaner console is doing some strange things to me.
The power light flashes, just the green power sign when a non-Xbox disc is in the drive.
The drive struggles to open when the console is standing up but is fine when its lying down.
Won't, no matter how hard i try to bribe it, connect to live. Got a network connection and its playing media from my office PC but its not getting to live, says the DNS settings are wrong but I have checked them against my desktop and my laptop and they are correct.
Setup is:
Xbox 360 Premium
My 120gb Elite drive.
Game F1 2010 and FM3
Official MS Wireless G adaptor.
Official MS Elite wireless controller, plugged in with official MS Play and Charge.
Current Gold Subscription.
I have done some research online and most people who find the flashing light issue have had their console chipped to play "backed up" games. Does this mean the little s
t cant afford to pay my bro for his console has afforded to get it chipped and blacklisted?? Am i jepordising my live access by using this console with my profile?? Is water wet?
