been left a car

Proof of ownership = will
Change the Registered Keeper (send off V5 with your name on it)
Insure it in your name (dead people generally have issues claiming/acquiring insurance)
Tax it as and when required.
Don't forget the MOT though, thats a bit different, because you wern't sold the car you need to fill out a DVLA form D2, which requires the signature of the Solicitor who wrote the Will.
Actually I'm taking the Piss, you also just MOT it as normal!
Have you found where they kept the keys yet (Plus the spare!!)

Asuming there are no probate issues just put random scribble in keepers signature section fill in the rest as normal and send to DVLA as a normal transfer. DO NOT enter into any extra communication or dialog with the DLVA unless you have time and money to waste. They are at best utterly useless

Easy, but not really legal, solution to the V5 is to squiggle a 'seller's' signature on the V5 before sending it off.... never fails!
Or equally easy and legal send with a covering letter and death certificate
I'd take the docs in person to the local DVLA office and get the bod behind the counter to confirm that you have everything you need to transfer ownership
