Haven't got a clue - need some help !?!

I've had an S2000 for 3 years, - I am doing far more miles now, mixed, but quite a lot on motorway too. I am fed up of feeling every single bump in the road.

My criteria is:

Economy.
Don't want to look like a tt.
Cabin on the comfortable & peaceful side.
Not too small.

Budget: £5000 - £7000.

I did think about a E39 BMW 5 series of some description... - but would definitely want to see upwards of 40mpg. I think this car, although ageing, still looks modern, isn't a "walkover" on the road (has a bit of presence)...

But would consider anything really. Fiestas, Mondeos, - whatever, - any good suggestions.. - I look around and i just dont see anything that takes my fancy????

Have you considered a diesel E39? They're quite good as far as fuel goes, or so I've been told.

Otherwise, these could do...

Thanks for the suggestions! smile

I have actually... - they do seem to pick most of the boxes.... - but, I'm just not sure about the image of them!??

Mondeo and Golf, good - but I think they're pretty noisy cars...?

Jag? Never considered that one! What are the running costs / reliability?

I don't see how the image of a diesel E39 could be much different to a petrol one, bit of debadging, no-one needs to know. They aren't really rep cars either, I'm sure they more favoured the 320Ds.

I'm not too sure on the Mondeo + Golf noise concerns, can't say I've ever been in either. That said I must warn you, if you're concerned about the 2.2D in the Mondeo I'd steer clear of the Jag, I think they were the same engines. According to parkers, a 2.2D X-type can do 47mpg. Not sure on reliability

Are you keeping the S2000 and just having something else for commuting?

Ben, - no, what I meant was that I dont like the image of the 3 series, - but quite like the look of the 5 series. Regardless of either petrol or diesel.

No - I intend to get rid of the S2000

i wouldnt invest in an e39 then! They might still be looking hansome now but in a year or two you'll probably want rid as I think it will soon start looking dated.
