Having just returned from living abroad, I've had to get the wife and I a brace of cars. After much deliberation We've ended up with a 2004 BMW 525d Touring SE (this one in fact: http://www.pvsc.co.uk/prestige-used-cars-details.p...) for the wife and Baby and a 1982 BMW 635CSI from auction for me.

We now need to insure them both. Would it be better to put them both in my name, on one policy and insure my wife on them as a named driver or put one in her name under one policy (with me as a named driver) and vice versa for the other?

For reference I am 33 with 15 years driving experience she is 29 with 8yrs. Neither of us have any accidents, claims or convictions for 5 yrs. I have 5yrs NCB and she has 3. has anyone got experience of how best to insure?

Annual mileage/garaging? May steer you towards a classic policy.

How long have you been away? Do you still have your NCD as it does expire?

NCB is still valid as we've been away less than 2 yrs with the military.

One would be garaged the other on the drive. mileage would be about 6k on the 635 and 12k on the 525d

In that I'd go classic insurance on the 635 using your NCD and a policy for the Mrs on the 525 using her NCD. You'd have to be named on her policy as most classic policies require the use of a main vehicle.
