rattling gear stick
Discussion
Spent a lot of time on the recent trip to Italy with one hand on the gearstick to stop it rattling or "tizzing" I think is the technical term.
This weekend i've fitted a new plastic clip that goes between the gearstick and selector rod in the gearbox (from www.bearingkits.co.uk) and a Link put up a little while ago by Norman led me to this
Bit fiddly to fit because TVR modified the standard Ford gearstick but well worth it. Gearchange is now tight and positive, much "sportier" feel than the sloppy way it was before and doesn't tizz !

Slightly confused (no change there!!)Is the plastic clip that stops the 'tizzing' included with this kit as well? I'm a slight sufferer too. There seems to be one included, judging by the picture on the website but I thought i'd check first before parting with the cash.
Making the gearchange a little slicker has been on the long 'to do' list and if I can combine it with stopping the annoying vibration I'll be very happy.
Thanks
Knew I should have taken pictures !
Ok, the clip between gearstick and selector comes from www.bearingkits.co.uk (£6.99 inc vat I think but plus postage)
The other kit works by raising the pivot point of the stick, more length below pivot and less above = less movement required.
The gearstick in the picture isn't needed (nor is the white nylon spacer) and doesn't come with the kit anyway. Under the rubber gaiter on the stick is a big spring and just below where the "extension" is welded on are two little lugs holding a flat washer in place to keep tension on the spring. I removed the lugs and the washer (Dremel came in handy). The pivot ball is then tapped upwards, the spacer ring thingy (in the kit) put in place and the ball knocked back down a little to hold it in place. Gearstick re-fitted using spacer block and longer bolts, i substituted cap head bolts for the hex head provided in kit.
Bit fiddly but no cutting and welding of gearstick required. This method worked for me, can't gaurantee will work for you!
Getting reverse takes a bit of effort now probably because of extra tension on that spring and you're not pushing down directly like you would be with a "standard" (not TVR modified) gearstick
Probably a lot clearer when you have it all in front of you ?

Hi Mike how fiddly was the clip to fit?Ok, the clip between gearstick and selector comes from www.bearingkits.co.uk (£6.99 inc vat I think but plus postage)

I replaced the little plastic saddle on the top inside of the gearbox (not sure technically where it was but with the gear lever loosened and removed it sat underneath it); I took the old one off, which didn't really look worn, and called into a local place that recons gearboxes - he said "oh yes its a ... from a ..." and gave me one for about 10p from memory. That was a while ago though so will have gone up but worth talking to a gearbox rebuilder if there is one near you as they might have the thing in or be able to get you one. That sorted the annoying rattle from the gearlever.

Does this help with a "Notchy" gear change?
I had the box re-furbished a while ago but it did not solve this problem...alternatively are there any skteches/drawings showing the gear change mechanism near the gear lever so I could have a go if it looked reasonable without removing the box itself?

No problem, console, gaiters etc. out the way then 3 Torx screws hold lever in. with these out pull gear lever out then the clip should still be (buried under a dollop of grease) on the selector rail. Pull it out with a pair of long nose pliers. Norman
Note which way round it goes or you'll struggle to get reverse !

A couple of Months ago I changed this Nylon Saddle as I was getting a noisy buzz from the gear stick of my S2, the old saddle had a small broken lug on the moulding, once put back together all seemed fine until this weekend!
I have a new gear knob too but when I get to 60mph in fifth gear the buzz is very audible, could it be play in the prop shaft joints or not so lucky with wear in the box?
