If it's been done "professionally", I'd be hoping to see a nice big invoice for the work in the service history. If it's been done with eBay part, by a mate who's profession is a mechanic at the local arches, on a couple of Sundays for a few quid cash, then that's not in my doctionary definition of a"professional" job.

NB. I must add that I in no way am playing down the abilities of independant mechanics, or those that work on their cars at home. I'm very much in the latter category, and carry out all manner of work on my own cars for peace of mind, enjoyment, and the financial saving - I fitted my AP brakes all round most recently. Whilst I'm happy that they are fitted to the standard that any other outfit would have, I'd not advertise the job as "professional".

I'd apply the old "never buy the first one you view" motto - there'll be another out there, without the gearbox spanner work. Tend to find it helps to view something slightly suspect first: it sets a useful benchmark & gives you a reason to walk away.
