Having moved into my new condo, I've become aware that my old 5.1 surround set-up looks a bit, well, rubbish to be honest, and I've damaged a couple of the speaker connectors in the move rolleyes

I've seen these sound bars in the local shops, and wondered if they were a good replacement for a conventional system. A bit of googling has also confused me, as the reviews were talking about seperate satellite speakes and subs.

Would anyone have any good recommendations on these?

Bing o - I have not yet bitten the bullet yet (so can't exactly comment on the sound) but this has been recommended to me:

Reviews are pretty favorable, but all conclude the same - with regard to 'surround sound' they are not a match on a good 5.1 system.

On the plus side, they are very neat and avoid the need to trail st loads of cables all over the place.

My mum has had one of these for years and I think they are really good if you don't want speakers everywhere!

I have and still do use the Polk Audio Surround Bar which is suprisingly effective.

I have one to install in the next couple of weeks with a matching wireless sub, resulting in a real minimum of cables.
