Does this count as proof of no claims bonus?

In June 2008 I took out a years motor insurance with Elephant for my Focus, covering from 05/06/2008 til 05/06/2009. Nearing the end of this policy, I called up and asked to cancel my policy (turn down the renewal) when it expired as I was leaving for university and selling the car.

I got a document sent through the post a week or two after it expired, titled "Motor Renewal Confirmation (Proof Of No Claims Bonus)". On here, there is a section titled "description of your cover" which states the period of cover being 5/06/2009 to 5/06/2010. Does that mean that my no claims bonus entitlement expired June '10?

If I were to take out another insurance policy with Elephant in the next half year or so, would that years no claims still be valid? And if so, would this piece of paper be classed as the proof? I'm useless with all this no claims malarkey, I have yet to have two years of driving one after the other due to university so not sure how it works.

No the '5/06/2009 to 5/06/2010' bit is the period of cover had you used that document as a renewal notice rather than 'proof of no claims'.

You keep no claims bonus for two years following a lapse in insurance.

Yes in the box that says decription of cover it should say proof of NCB in letters not numbers so reads like this "ONE", it will still be valid with elephant or any other insurer in a year.
