Hello

Finally managed to get to Bond Street to have a look at some watches and in particular the SS Daytona as I have always wanted one. They look fabulous but when I tried it on I was a little underwhelmed as seems to be a bit small, or am I missing something?

Just buy one, or don't!

FFS!

Where did you find an SS Daytona? So I can, you know, nick it off you.

Soovy if only my life was that easy... Everytime I make a decision to get a watch I try another on and that is the one, I am useless. God knows I haven't even got onto which colour dial to go for if I go for one. Has anyone else thought they are a bit small, it looked smaller than my GMT Master.

They are smaller than a GMT or a Sub. I sometimes think my Daytona looks small but then I think that is agood thing as it doesn't stand out like a Sub or a watch of similar size to a Sub. I was at Brands Hatch yesterday and I saw a guy with a white dial Daytona and thought I'm glad mine is black. Also the watch didn't look that small on him and he wasn't a slim chap, so I wouldn't worry to much about that.

I bought one, it's small, shiny, so very, very shiny and underwhelming. It's disappointing to be honest. The best part is the anticipation of owning one.

Jshell - If you've had enough of it I'm sure you wouldn't be short of offers!! I'm due to get mine in the next few weeks and can't wait. I have tried one on and I like the size. Bigger isn't always better

My first 'big' watch was a full sized Yachtmaster which I bought back in 2000.I upgraded from a mid sized and the full sized looked and felt bloody massive in comparison.
Fast forward 10years and we are now in an age of big watches. After wearing my Breitling Bentley 6.75 and which now appears 'normal',my full sized Yachtmaster and my Daytona(both a similar size) feel positively dainty in comparison.

Same position for me... Have a 42mm IWC Spitfire and my ND Sub has now given way to a 43mm DEEPSEA and has been sitting in a drawer for the last month or so... As much as I love them, I am not sure I could move to a Daytona now even though I hanker for a vinatge one (if it's vintage, does size matter so much?).

There's always one of these.

Tudor Big Block. I have large wrists and as such felt the Daytona was a tad small. This is a perfect solution. It's been getting a lot of wrist time since it arrived. Oh and the ~£5k still sitting in my bank from the Daytona fund will go to a worthy cause wink

Good work!
My one is a tad unusual as i sent it back to Rolex for a service and a new glass and it came back with a Rolex crown rather than the Tudor one.

It's locked up in the safe just now as i've not had my Milgauss off since i bought it.

LHD,

Cheers, they're lovely watches. I felt a worthy alternative.

Is yours a Big Block? Looks like it has the fixed bezel. Nice looking bit of wrist furniture there.

I must admit I thought they all had the Rolex crowns? Mine certainly does as do a few more I looked at. That's what made me wonder if yours was the regular sized one as I've not seen a big block without the Rolex crown.

jshell,

Sorry I haven't been in touch. Kinda dropped everything for a while a work was a tad mental!

Still living it up on the work tab at Mal? wink

Wow. I thought I was living in my own little world until I saw this pic.

I have the same watch except that my main dial and subdials are black with Arabic numerals, 1-5, 7-11. Never seen anything like it. Bezel is bi-directional too. With a Rolex crown.

I'll try and take a piccie but not very good with cameras.

Yeaaah… unless you're an impostor, I've chatted with you before old chap and you certainly *do* know your way round 'catching the moment' and doing what active photography is *all about* IMO.

Haven't seen you around these parts either. Tudor owner too? I have a modern one, I suppose it makes me a spiv, but it's a good watch. wink

I lost my Nokia N95! That was the key! It was all about the camera smile

I took the watch into David Robinson's today to get it sent off for a service. Rolex are quoting 18 weeks or something! Have a deposit on the Bremont MB1 so maybe will have to pick that up and make do until the New Year.

I've had mine 10 years, and even when I bought it in Selfridges the Tritium had faded completely. But I like the watch more for the fact that the chances of me seeing another one like it, are like me shacking up with Holly Madison. I'm also on the lookout for a 70's, classic Tudor Sub....

I'll get a piccie up as soon as I can...

I do like those Tudors...

I have looked at this one a couple of times, but it's expensive:

http://www.visiotime.com/index.php?page=ProductDet...

But now they have this one, which isn't the dial combination I wanted, nor the strap, but it is cheap (no box or papers):

http://www.visiotime.com/index.php?page=ProductDet...

What is the difference between those and a Big Block, which seem to be a fair bit more money? Is it just the case size?

All crazy here too, oil industry seems to be bucking the national trends!

Was thrown out of the Mal Maison a little while back, was very good whilst is lasted! Living up in Old Aberdeen mid-week with an old Drilling Supt mate of mine.

Still can't believe you thought my 50th Ann Speedy was a 'reduced'!!!! wink
