hiya Chris, my first SWFF trip is on Friday and I'm really looking forwards to it.
I had booked a three hour session with a casting and fishing tutor tomorrow but thats been cancelled
so now I'm off on my own. I'm only 100mtrs from the beach in Worthing West Sussex so I can pop down anytime
I fancy. I plan to fish the river Adur in Shoreham when I'm practiced enough and my waders turn up.
I'll let you know how I get on..

cheers

HI Chris,
Sorry about that!
You are welcome to come over here any time!
The river Adur was my first choice rather than the sea because im st at casting into the wind.
There are plenty of mullet and bass in there, so should be worth a try

Very keen to give it a go - I had a couple of trips to the coast earlier in the summer, and took the fly gear, but ended up spinning instead. Must be getting a bit late in the year for bass in most places, though?

hiya chaps, what about sorting a day out together then? If the Adur is too far for Chris and Steve W to journey, I'm happy to travel along the coast to Chichester or maybe Langstone harbour. It's still warm enough for bass [just] [even bring some bread flies for mullet]. Could give the cars a run, thrash a few rods in the air and you never know might even catch a fish between us:-)
I'm happy to play almost anytime the tide and weather is on our side.

cheers

Great, a meet-up sounds good.
I joined this web site last year http://www.sea-fishing.org/account.html but not with a view to SWFF. On a walk in Devon a few weeks ago I could see mullet or bass in the shallows after the bait-fish.....I wished I'd had my fly rod.

I noticed that the sea fish site had a SWFF section, I made contact with a few guys & went out with them about 3 weeks ago, on Hayling Island. Only met once, a really nice bunch & made me very welcome.
At that point I didn't have any chest waders (I'm still waiting for them to arrive) so I went "wet- wading". It was a bright sunny day & really quite pleasant cool

There is another meet arranged for this saturday but I won't be going unless my waders arrive...bit too cold now for wet-wading eek

It is getting to the end of the season from what I understand, but there are still fish to be had all year round.

Anyway, its good that we've made contact (I'll add you to my mates list) & some time in the spring, or sooner.....when the waders arrive, & if the weather/tides are ok, we could meet for a chuck & a blat.

Chris

Pete just noticed you have V8 MGB.....I wrote mine off in...errrrr...1984 getmecoat

hi Chris, yeh, I'm on V8 MG number three now ..have all been injected and tweaked and this one has a five link rear end to help with traction. I have a Hoyles alloy front suspension set up with larger discs and 4 pot calipers to install when I'm fit enough to spend the weekend on the floor [still not got over a total knee replacement] I don't expect she will be as quick as my last one, timed @ 156mph but that one self- destruced in a fire ball at the side on the road in 1998!! fingers crossed this one won't.
So back to SWFF...went to the beach yesterday at low tide all togged up to practice casting, had agreat time really, but the north wind compromised my back cast and I managed to whip-crack the leader off after an hour.
Have a busy day today but will be back practicing tomorrow [and boy do I need to]

cheers

My waders did arrive so I met up with 5 others at Church Norton. (nr Selsey)

The wind did make it heavy going & the fish were somewhere else, only one fish was caught for 6 hours of fishing I had 3 hits but they were all short grumpy

Still, that's 2 areas now fished so at least I know a little about the marks.
H.W was at about 06.30 & we started to fish the ebb at about 10.00, through L.W till about 16.00

Only walked a couple of miles but it was hard work for no reward irked
Weather was kind to us apart from the wind wobble

One of the guys does a bit of beach fishing as well so I might give that a bash over winter....if I can build up enough brownie points biggrin is that something that appeals?

Cheers

Chris

Just had a three hour casting session with Howie in Shoreham [www.flyfishingsussex.com.] As [very much] a newbie it was important for me to learn the physics of casting and be able to validate the tutition. I have to say I had a great time, not sure if Howie would agree thoughbiggrin we covered the safety angles, tackle and of course casting techniques. The time just flew by and apart from not attaching a fly and actually fishing
it was as satisfying as a proper fishing trip. All the gear was supplied although I did get to try out my new Snowbee Deep Blue rod for the last hour and was really pleased with it. I now feel that I can move on confidently and with lots of practice over the winter be better prepared to catch loads of fish next year..
I'll use Howie's services again in the spring [if he has stopped laughing by then] and have another session to hone the skills and learn some local rivercraft.
So...whenever any of you guys are ready to play smile

cheers

Off shortly for a week in Cornwall in a holiday cottage by the sea. Probably going to be more beachcaster weather, but I will take the fly gear and have tied some clousers.

Just have to hope for the odd spot of decent conditions.
