Freelander 1 - replacement wheels?
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I've been thinking of getting a spare set of wheels for the OH's 2003 TD4 so we can put some winter or off-road tyres on.
Since spare sets of wheels seem to be quite rare at a reasonable price, I was wondering if anyone knows if any other manufacturer's wheels would fit?
Obviously, they don't have to be alloys. Someone suggested the steel 16" wheels from a Rav4 - no idea if they even have the same PCD?
I do know that the early Freelander wheels won't fit ours since it has the later, bigger brakes.
Anyone know the PCD etc. of the Freelander?
Thanks,
Steve

Have you tried ebay?
Theres loads of cheap alloys on it, also the steel wheels are very cheap.
What wheels are one yours? 15,16,17?
Ive seen a few people with the 5 spoke 16 inch alloy run BFG at's as all year round tyres.
They work really well and dont have terrible handling or wet weather grip.

I had a look on Ebay, but it's not a site I've ever used.
I must have my search parameters off since I was finding sets for about £300, and collection from Liverpool or Newcastle; I'm near Reading.
Ours is on the standard (for Kalahari) 17s (225/55/17 IIRC) but I guess the later 16" wheels would fit.

6 spoke 17s? Good design them.
You can get the ES spec 5 spoke 16 inch alloys for £100 with good tyres from freelanderbreaker.com
I got a quote from him over wheels a few months ago and it was about that, send him an email and see what he says. You can then fit tyres to the alloys.
Mind the synchrone tyres that your freeby had as standard are mud and snow tyres and are pretty good in both conditions. Ive 17s and new synchrones on my freeby and its great in mud, old worn out tyres were pretty handy in the snow as well.

Yup, the 6 spoke 17s.
Thanks for the breaker info - much appreciated.
You're right about the Michelins, they've been very good. Not proper off roading, but we were able to tow our laden horse trailer out of a flooded/muddy field when everyone else seemed to need towing out by a tractor.
They weren't too bad in the snow last year, even when my OH decided to do some power slides out of junctions
She learnt to drive in the Northern US where they have proper amounts of snow for months on end. Shame we had to go back and help our friends in their Frontera which spun out and went nose first into a bank trying to copy her!

Im trying to talk my way into new alloys for mine, ive got the fogs/spots/bull bar sorted.
Just want better alloys as i have 17s in 3 spoke style and they are not a nice style.
Yep, ive had plenty of fun towing cars in last winters snow with mine, no mud towing though.
Only got it stuck in mud once but then if a def90 with bfg at's cant get up it then i feel no shame at getting 2/3rds up before running out of momentum.
Good luck with the breaker guy, should get a fairly decent price from him.
