Focus RS - Depreciation
Discussion
Rule of thumb
Average car
3 years old
Total 30,000 miles
40 to 50% of its new value
Specialist car
Just take a guess,
Depends on which way the wind is blowing
Body colour
Extras
Ashtray light bulb colour
Is it still fashionable?
Was it ever fashionable to anybody but you in the first place.
Tip
Before you buy ANY new car, ask the dealer for a finance quote with a ‘guaranteed future value’.
Its then in black and white for all to see.

I was in at the Dealer with my RS for it's first anual service. Had a word regarding depreciation, he thinks it has taken a fare hit in the first year, but now it's leveling out according to his little black book, with the October values staying the same as September.
However, there are quite a few tuned/remaped cars out there, which I think will reduce values further, but a standard car with low miles will allways command a good price.

GFV for a 2 year old Focus RS is £12795. I can't see even the roughest cars getting anywhere near that figure though, the earliest cars are 18 months old (ish) and are still 20k+.
Personally I don't think the depreciation on them is 'that' bad, the earliest cars cost £24995 plus any extras, now 18 months old with 10k miles (both rough estimates) and still fetching 20k. Plenty of BMW/Audi etc depreciate far worse than that.

Tbh the Rs models always attract better residuals you only have to look at the complete range to see this.
A nice s1 Focus Rs will still be @ 10k which is 50% of its value when the youngest ones are 7 years old now where a newer St can be had for less money or a nice st170 will be 4k
A reasonable Escort Rs turbo will be 3-4k where a mint xr3i will be £1500
Its a pattern all the way through the Ford range as the Rs brand is so strong.
The new Rs has had its major hit, you may even find the prices perk up a bit once they are no longer avaiable new.
