What Car?....is worth a large amount more in bits than whole

So I have two MX5's, building one heavily modified track car from the two of them and I was then going to sell one the other. However basically I don't have time to build two so decided that I would break the one I didn't intend to keep. I'd have happily sold it for £700, so far on ebay I have liberated £100 for the wing mirrors, £20 for the grill, £20 for the clocks, £30 for centre console, £20 for the pop-up covers, £5 for the rear brake light. I have barely touched the surface breaking the car and already got £195 back. Safe to say the car is worth more in bits and bonus is dismantling is far quicker and easier than reassembly

So what car is King when it comes to being Pennys to buy in one bit but Pounds in pieces?

I guess it has to be something with an active owners club?

A mate of mine is rebuilding a Unimog and it's astounding the second hand price of various obscure brackets and stuff, he's bought several 'half' unimogs, to scavenge and sell on bits

Mine about £2.5k in bits and because it's got a problem and doesn't run as well as it should about £800 as a whole! It's so sad to see it on the drive and not being able to drive it. Haven't got the heart to strip and sell it either

This is a good call, parts are hugely expensive over here, especially for the older round-cab models.

BMW E34 M5's are worth more in bits than as a whole car. A new engine is well over 10 K from BMW but in a car sell for half that. Interiors are not cheap nor are exhausts, wheels, and don't mention EDC struts which are a reasonable £900 each fronts and more at the rear.

All well and good so long as you have somewhere to keep a dismantled car and some way of getting rid of a large pile of scrap which nobody wants! Once a car is sitting immobile it can be a right PITA!

Honda accord type r's are worth more in parts nowadays engines fetch for £1500+ alone and other things like lights and interiors go for a few quid too.

On a side note I used to spen a lot of time at the local Honda parts counter and got talking to the guy who works there and he mentioned that a civic type-r (ep3) in parts would cost nearly £35k if you where to build one from scratch

Modified 200SXs are worth lots in bits.

I'd be lucky to get £1700 for mine despite the shell being mint. Worth over twice that in parts. Modified S14s are even better.

I am thinking of breaking my E28 525E as it's worth a lot more in bits. Good wings are hard to find, the 2.7L bottom end, chrome, valances, interior....all a bit scarce. I reckon I should get a fair amount broken, but struggle to get £500 as is (cracked head). I hate to do it though....not many rust free e28's about any more.

Wow, didn't he sell it to a chap in Ireland for £10K? I saw the car about a year after when Ryan had it back to fix some issues it had developed and it looked a right mess, but I'd assumed it'd all been sorted out long ago.

MR2's in general must be a good choice though especially if you got a heavily modified one to strip.

I'd say anything that's been tuned/modifed but has gone rusty/MOT failer.

As you experience, I know someone who has made a bit breaking rusty, modified MX5's. Likewise, when I swapped my S13 200SX, the guy broke it and probably made more than I'd have sold it for.

I was offered a lwb Daimler V8 a few weeks ago for £500, it was in amazing condition with lovely interior but one of the head gaskets had gone.
Surely that would have been worth more in bits?
