Every time I turn BBC radio on, they seem to be talking to a Labour spokesman/woman...

It really is getting on my tits...

It beats me why Cameron lets them violate their Charter with this constant lefty bias.

It's odd the way UK seems to think it's OK for its "toffs" to bunk off overseas and dodge paying taxes. Meanwhile USA taxes its citizens on worldwide income and is doing its best to clamp down on tax havens - hence the recent requirement for UBS to release details of Swiss bank accounts to the IRS.

Similarly one wonders why the UK didn't get Ashcroft to pay the taxes he agreed he would pay. Mind you, if he's hiding behind charities which - errm - aren't doing anything charitable then maybe that's not too surprising.

Sounds like the usual load of cock. I'm surprised anyone who isn't a card-carrying Labour party supporter still watches it.

'Call me Dave' should just IPO it.

Who'd want to buy it? . . . . . . . Can’t see many evil bankers, ruthless pension fund folks or dastardly hedge fund bods wanting to put money into the UK's off shoot of Pravda

My american friends over here think the IRS are the biggest bunch of fascist s anywhere in the world. Why should you pay tax to a country that just happen to have been born in, but do not consume any resources in? No doubt HMRC will come sniffing after my investments in the IoM next...

So, the principle of paying tax is that you should only pay tax based on the government resources that you use personally?

That has nothing to do with any clamping down by the USA Govt/IRS and everything to do with Birkenfeld, the UBS whistleblower. Who, for after giving the US Govt/IRS the names of 19000 tax evaders, has ended up in prison! (although he does stand to become immensely rich - 30% of any money recouped goes to him).

If you reside in a country, you should pay tax towards the upkeep and running of that country.

That seems entirely fair with me. If you dont live in a country, you should be under no requirement to pay tax *to* that country.

And if you want to have influence in a country (where you were born) then you should pay all your tax there.
I see no differance to the spongers getting something for nothing without putting something back into the system and Ashcroft's situation. It was just wrong.

The police are investigating according to the programme. My thoughts on this - yes he does seem to have some shady deals .. they weren't done in the UK so who cares .. BBC doing a hatchet job to discredit the tories which shows political bias (did they ever investigate Mandy or a whole host of smaller fry from the previous government?).

I'm putting together a 'documentary' on why the BBC pays Mark Thompson £834,000. I wonder if the editor of Panorama could comment.

Ive no problem with that stance. In my humble, once you open yourself to national political life and office then it is only common sense that you abide by the letter of the law but that you also abide by the spirit of the law. To do otherwise means you create a rod for your own back and easy scoring points for your opposition. It might not be fair, but then such is life.
