With the ever increasing number of valuables in our household the time has come to buy a good safe.Ive pretty much narrowed it down to the Chubb Sovereign Elite 60,Grade 1,£10,000 cash rated.This offers the kind of protection Im looking for,Chubb is a recognised name in the security industry,and this particular safe offers 1hr fire protection which is good too.
The only thing I cant decide on is whether to get the version with the keylock or the electronic lock.The keylock should be a good reliable system however if someone breaks in and gets lucky and finds the hiding place for the key then it renders the safe useless.The electronic lock eliminates this concern but Im left wondering if the electronic lock could be defeated somehow,and what happens in 10yrs time if the electronics go wrong and you cant open the safe??

Ah but what happens if someone breaks in and holds a knife to your throat or gun to your head for the code?
Hide it under the bed
If someone breaks in when you are there and threatens you then you'd hand over everything no matter what,however house breaking in this way is thankfully rare and I'm more concerned with the more common form of burgalry-breaking in when you are not there and turning the house over looking for things.Hide it under the bed

I did once have a massive safe at a business I used to own.We never used it but someone broke in one weekend and removed it-god knows how they did it but they will have found that after all the trouble of removing it and cutting it open that all it contained was a few coppers and a whole lot of fresh air.
Get a dog.....and you won't need a safe. I was watching some kind of police type program a while ago and they busted a gang of organised burglars.
When they searched one of their homes they found maps of several areas with red crosses on various houses which the detectives later figured out were the ones that had dogs!!

My missus is alergic to dogs so thats out of the question.When my mum was burgled she had 2 Jack Russells,very good house dogs but the burgulars sussed this and came in through the back of the house while my mum was in the front garden on a nice sunny day....
